Having a place to call home is a wonderful feeling, no matter what that home may look like.
Some people love living in a “cookie cutter” type house, but others want to show off their individuality through creative architecture and design. These 15 adventurous individuals really took it to the next level!
1. This couple built a floating home.
Catherine King and Wayne Adams have lived on a homemade, self-sufficient floating island off the coast of Vancouver Island for the past 29 years.
2. Squeeze on into the world’s thinnest house.
This skinny flat in Warsaw, Poland, is just 3 feet wide at its narrowest point and 5 feet at the widest. Just getting inside is an adventure!
3. The late Dick Clark built a home inspired by “The Flintstones.”
Television legend Dick Clark apparently had a flair for the dramatic! Take a look at this unique oceanside cave home he had built in Malibu, California. Yabba dabba doo!
4. This house is a real dump(ster).
New York City is one of the most expensive cities in the world to live in. Gregory Kloehn got around those sky-high rents in a very unusual way; he turned an abandoned dumpster into a house complete with a kitchen, a toilet, and an outdoor shower.
5. This home is completely see-through.
This 592-square-foot home in Tokyo, Japan, is entirely transparent. Yes, even the bathroom! That’s one way to get to know your neighbors!

Claiming rents in Beijing, China, were too high, this 24-year-old architect built a personal biodome that can fit on a city sidewalk. Solar panels provide him with electricity!
10. Most people call it the Dr. Seuss House, but the builder calls it his “poem to the sky.”
Phillip Weidner has a degree in engineering, so he set out to build himself a house outside the small town of Talkeetna, Alaska. But once he started building, he just couldn’t stop! The Goose Creek Tower now has multiple tiny cabins stacked on top of each other and is 185 feet tall — and he’s not done yet!
11. This house built on top of a volcano also happens to look like a spaceship.
Somewhere between Los Angeles, California, and Las Vegas, Nevada, you can find the Volcano House. It’s “as remote as you can get,” and it was built by an astronomer and inventor who needed privacy and great views.
