When a student finishes medical school, their journey is just beginning! Next, they’ll spend three to seven years focusing on their specialty in a hospital’s residency program.
As exciting as this transition is for students, there’s also some stress. With thousands of medical students in the U.S., not everyone will get placed where they want. In order to figure this out, students go through multiple interviews at various hospitals. Next, both the students and the hospitals rank their preferences in order. From there, a complex computer program uses this info in order to decide who will be going where.
As stressful as it can be to wait for the results, students can find solace in knowing exactly when they’ll discover their fate: On Match Day. Every spring, medical students are given an envelope with their results at exactly noon, including students like Miguel Quintero Cons who followed his dream of becoming a neurosurgeon by emigrating from Colombia to the United States.
While earning his M.D., Miguel has been working at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, a place with co-workers he’s come to absolutely adore. That’s why, when one of the medical professionals he’s been working under presented him with his Match Day envelope, he could hardly contain his excitement!
Watch Miguel’s unforgettable Match Day reveal below and don’t forget to share.
